Schmidt Information Collection and UseInformation CollectionMom's is the sole owner of the information collected on: Mom's collects information from our users at several different points on our Web sites. RegistrationIt is not necessary to register or submit any personal information in order to use Mom's Web sites. All sections of Mom's Web sites are available and fully functional for any and all. A user can edit their registration profile in part or in whole at any time, and can delete their registration completely if they wish, at any time. Information UseMom's Lasagna collects information from users through several points on the Web site such as registration to the site, making a donation, order free informational materials, and signing up to post on Mom's bulletin boards. The primary reason for Mom's to collect personal users' information is to facilitate Mom's Web site personalization options for them, and to facilitate Web site features that require user input, whether this information is submitted directly by the site user, or collected by use of technologies such as cookies, as discussed below.Personal financial information in the form of a credit card number and expiration date are only collected if a site user wishes to make an online donation through Mom's Web sites. This information is not maintained by Mom's when entered online. User information submitted through Mom's Web sites is only used for the purposes for which it was collected. ProfileMom's stores information that we collect through voluntary direct user submission through our registration tool. We also reserve the right to collect and store information through any of cookies, log files, and/or clear gifs to create a profile of our users, and to better understand the general demographics and needs of the user population we serve. Here, a profile is stored information that we keep on individual users that details their viewing preferences. Demographic information is user information stripped of any individually identifying content that is used to develop and understand users as a group. Information collected by Mom's that is tied to the users personally identifiable information, is used to provide requested information and services. As a matter of fixed policy, Mom's will not share your profile with other third parties, except as where required by law. CookiesA cookie is a piece of data stored on the user's computer tied to information about that user. Mom's uses both session ID cookies and persistent cookies. For the session ID cookie, once users close the browser, the cookie simply terminates. A persistent cookie is a small text file stored on the user's hard drive for an extended period of time. Persistent cookies can be removed by following Internet browser help file directions. The primary function of cookies for Mom's is to facilitate use of our Web sites by our users, and to enrich your online experience with us. Persistent cookies are used to store the user's registration identification information from their basic registration, to facilitate their logging in to their personalized view of Mom's Web sites. Persistent cookies enable us to track and target the interests of our users to enhance their experience on our sites. See the Profile section. Session cookies remember what chapter you are registered into or visiting online and who you are if you go from one Society Web site to another in a session. This way you do not have to separately log into the various Society Web sites as you go from one to another of them during that session. If users reject cookies, they may still use our sites, and all the informational resources provided through them. Their registration-based personalization options and the capacity of their browser to keep track of what chapter they are visiting online as they go from one of our sites to another, is lost if the user rejects cookies. Mom's uses a tracking utility provided by WebSideStory, Inc. called HitBox, to track usage of specific web pages and other resources provided through our web site. HitBox sets cookies as a method for compiling site usage information but these cookies are only used to compile demographic models of site usage and are not tied to the user's personal information. Third Party AdvertisingThird party advertisements do not appear on Mom's Web sites, except for links to our sponsors' websites. Log FilesLike most standard Web site servers we use log files. This includes internet protocol (IP) addresses, browser type, internet service provider (ISP), referring/exit pages, platform type, date/time stamp, and number of clicks to analyze trends, administer the site, track user's movement in the aggregate, and gather broad demographic information for aggregate use. IP addresses, etc. are not linked to personally identifiable information. (See the Profile section above.) Clear Gifs (Web Beacons/Web Bugs)Mom's reserves the right to employ a software technology called clear gifs (also known as Web Beacons and Web Bugs), to help us better manage content on our site by informing us what content is effective. Clear gifs are invisible objects added onto specific Web pages that have associated with them a unique identifier, similar in function to cookies, and are used to track the online movements of Web users. More specifically, clear gifs are Web objects that are added to pages as tiny, transparent graphics that are approximately the size of the period at the end of this sentence. Mom's does not, and does not plan to tie information obtained through the use of clear gifs to users' personally identifiable information. Such information would only be used for the purpose of demographic analysis. Referral ServiceMom's Lasagna reserves the right to provide options for site visitors to send messages to friends including the option to send ePostcards, pages or eNewsletters or to notify a friend of a donation. If a user elects to use our referral service for informing a friend about our site, we ask them for the friend's name and email address. Mom's Lasagna will automatically send the friend a one-time email inviting them to visit the site. Mom's stores this information for the sole purpose of sending this one-time email and for tracking the success of our referral program. The friend may contact Mom's Lasagna at info@momslasagna.org to request the removal of this information from our database. Data obtained through the "Notify a Friend of a Donation" feature is only used for notification purposes. Communications from the SiteDonation Confirmation EmailsAll donors are automatically sent an email containing information confirming their donation and directions on how to download the recipe. Mom's also uses this information for demographic purposes, to detect and keep track of the numbers of email returns where a user registers using an invalid or unknown email address. SharingLegal DisclaimerThough Mom's makes every effort to preserve user privacy, we may need to disclose personal information when required by law wherein we have a good-faith belief that such action is necessary to comply with a current judicial proceeding, a court order or legal process served on our Web site. Mom's does not share personally identifiable information with third parties except as required as above by law. Third Party Intermediaries
Service ProvidersMom's maintains relationships with Inteli-com and Interon Design, but we do not share user information with them and they in turn do not share their user information with Mom's. The specific URL's of these service providers are masked in the address window of user Web browsers, showing the URL of Mom's Web page in which they are positioned. Opt-In/Opt-Out ChoicesPersonal information is only obtained from users on an opt-in basis. Site users are given the opportunity to opt-out at any time of having their personal information maintained by Mom's Web sites. This is done through the through the registration page available on the main Mom's Web site (www.momslasagna.org). LinksMom's Web site provides select links to other sites. Determination of which outside links to include on Mom's Web sites is made by the Board, to ensure that only links to sites that meet our standards for accuracy and reliability are included. Please be aware, however, that Mom's is not responsible for the policies or privacy practices of Web sites maintained by other organizations. We encourage our users to be aware when they leave our sites, and to read the privacy statements of each and every Web site that collects personally identifiable information that they might visit. This privacy statement applies solely to information collected by Mom's Web sites. SecurityMom's takes every precaution to protect our users' information. When users submit personal information via our Web sites, their information is protected both online and off-line. When our online donation forms ask users to enter sensitive information (such as credit card number and/or social security number), that information is encrypted and is protected with the best encryption software in the industry - SSL. While on a secure page, such as our online donation forms, the lock icon on the bottom of Web browsers such as Netscape Navigator and Microsoft Internet Explorer becomes locked, as opposed to appearing as unlocked, or open, as when users are just 'surfing'. While we use SSL encryption to protect sensitive information online, we also do everything in our power to protect user-information off-line. All of our users' information, not just the sensitive information mentioned above, is restricted in our offices.
When and if Mom's confidential information policy is updated, our employees are notified as to the details of the new policy and reminded about the importance we place on privacy, and what they can do to ensure that our users' information is protected. The servers that store personally identifiable information are in a secure off-site environment, behind a locked cage, in a locked facility. Users having questions about the security at our Web site can submit them to us by email at webmanager@momslasagna.org. Correcting/Updating/Deleting/Deactivating Personal InformationIf a user's personally identifiable information changes (such as zip code, phone, email or postal address), or if a user no longer desires our service, Mom's provides a way to correct, update or delete/deactivate this information. This can be done by the user at any time, at the Personalize/Update Profile page of our registration page . Users can also request that their user registration be deleted from Mom's system by emailing or writing us at the contact information listed below. Notification of ChangesIf Mom's changes its privacy policy, changes to this privacy statement will be posted, with prominent links to the new policy positioned on Mom's homepage (www.momslasagna.org), and other places we deem appropriate, so our users are always aware of what information we collect, how we use it, and under what circumstances, if any, we disclose it. Mom's will use information in accordance with the privacy policy under which the information was collected. If, however, we are going to use users' personally identifiable information in a manner different from that stated at the time of collection we will notify users via email. Users will have a choice as to whether or not we use their information in this different manner. However, if users have opted out of all communication with the site, or deleted/deactivated their account, then they will not be contacted, nor will their personal information be used in this new manner. In addition, if we make any material changes in our privacy practices that do not affect user information already stored in our database, we will post a prominent notice on our Web site notifying users of the change. In some cases where we post a notice we will also email users, who have opted to receive communications from us, notifying them of the changes in our privacy practices.
